Spalding is now offering two different SCTI options.

Option 1:

SPALDING CERTIFIED TEACHER INSTRUCTOR with RF and ESWR Endorsement(SCTi)

This option certifies the candidate to become a Spalding Certified Teacher Instructor (SCTI – RF & ESWR endorsed). It includes two demos, 6 & 7, at approximately 65-70 minutes each and a student teaching practicum. Both evaluate the candidate's implementation of OPR, WPR, Spelling Dictation, Word Analysis, Sentence Construction, and 5 Mental Actions. These procedures must be performed at 95%-100% accuracy. Upon completion of the SCTI – RF & ESWR requirements, the SCTI will be eligible to teach both the Reading Foundations (RF) and Effective Strategies for Writing and Reading (ESWR) courses. This option meets the SCTI requirement for Spalding accredited schools or schools pursuing accreditation.

Prerequisites

  • SCT certification process completed without any demo resubmissions. If resubmissions occurred, the candidate must repeat the SCT process before applying to become an SCTI.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

  • Completion of two Reading Foundation courses with grades of “A” (The second time taking the course needs to have occurred in 2019 or later.)

  • Completion of two Effective Strategies for Writing and Reading with grades of “A” (The second time taking the course needs to have occurred in 2020 or later.)

  • A minimum of four years implementing The Writing Road to Reading program

 

Option 2:

SPALDING CERTIFIED TEACHER WITH READING FOUNDATIONS ENDORSEMENT (SCTI – RF ENDORSED)

This option certifies the candidate to become a Spalding Certified Teacher Instructor (SCTI – RF endorsed). It includes two demos, 6 & 7, at approximately 45 minutes each and a student teaching practicum. Both evaluate the candidate's implementation of OPR, WPR, Spelling Dictation, Word Analysis, and Sentence Construction. These procedures must be performed at 100% accuracy. Upon completion of the SCTI – RF requirements, the SCTI will be eligible to only teach the Reading Foundations (RF) course. This option DOES NOT meet the SCTI requirement for Spalding accredited schools or schools pursuing accreditation.

 Prerequisites

  • SCT certification process completed without any demo resubmissions. If resubmissions occurred, the candidate must repeat the SCT process before applying to become an SCTI.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

  • Completion of two Reading Foundation courses with grades of “A” (The second time taking the course needs to have occurred in 2019 or later.)

  • A minimum of four years implementing The Writing Road to Reading program

 

OPTIONS 1 & 2 OBSERVATIONS

Demo 6 is recorded and submitted for feedback. The feedback is required to be implemented in demo 7. Demo 7 is an onsite observation.

In order to progress to the next demo, the demo requirements must be implemented with the percentage accuracy described under Demo Expectations.

  • If requirements are not met, the candidate will be asked to resubmit the demo. The candidate may only resubmit one time during this process.

  • If any other demos do not meet Demo Expectations, the candidate will not continue the certification process and payment will be forfeited.

  • The candidate may reapply for certification the following school year.

 

OPTIONS 1 & 2 DEMO DEADLINES

Candidates must submit demos by the specified deadline. Failure to meet the deadline will result in the removal from the certification process and payment will be forfeited. The candidate may reapply for certification the following school year. 

Application is due by Dec. 16, 2022.

DEMO 6 SUBMISSION WINDOW IS JAN. 9, 2023 THROUGH JAN. 25, 2023.

Demo 7 is onsite and scheduled with certification team.

MAINTAINING CERTIFICATION

  • Complete a minimum of 10 clock hours of Spalding-approved continuing education during each year

  • Teach The Writing Road to Reading in an educational setting

  • Send recertification fee at the beginning of each year

  • Notify Spalding of changes in name, address, phone, position, or email in a timely manner

PAYMENT

$350.00 plus travel fees for onsite demo 7

Certification fee is due with demo 6 submittal

 Payment will be forfeited if:

  • the candidate’s demo does not meet the

    Demo Expectations for a second time.

  • the candidate fails to meet deadlines.
